It is not as simple as listing out your past work experience on a piece of paper; it must have substance to it. There are four typical mistakes that most people make when creating a resume. The first of these is the length of the document. A potential employer or hiring manager does not have the time or patience to read a novel. The next mistake employers see most often is poor grammar and spelling. It seems to be a silly mistake, especially since every computer has a spell checker, but it’s something we see far too often.  An employer will be able to pinpoint the tiniest grammar error each and every time without fail. Most of the time it is an honest mistake since our brains tend to read misspelled words correctly. To bypass this slip-up, be diligent in running your spell check and have another person read through your documents before sending them.
The last resume misstep is listing out every single job duty you have ever had instead of focusing on what you bring to the table for a prospective employer. Let them know what you have contributed to organizations in the past and why it is relevant to this position. Telling them why you would be a valuable member of their team will get you noticed easier over a candidate who simply states the jobs they have done.
