Did you know that the Health Care field is one of the fastest growing industries in the country? As the population in America continues to age, more jobs are being created. This is mainly due to the increasing age of the Baby Boomer generation. If you are a medical professional looking for new employment, then the time is right for you to get out there and secure a great new opportunity!
Before you begin your job hunt you must first take steps to ensure your resume has been filled out properly and that it is functional. It is not as simple as listing out your past work experience on a piece of paper; it must have substance to it. This is your audition and your chance to convince an employer that YOU are the right person for a Texas medical center job. A resume will help you to convey this to a potential employer, since they see your resume before they even think about seeing you in person. You must give them a reason to want to call you for an interview.
There are four typical mistakes that most people make when creating a resume. The first of these is the length of the document. A potential employer or hiring manager does not have the time or patience to read a novel. Your best bet is to keep it succinct, highlighting the most important jobs, awards, and achievements that pertain to the position you are applying for. This provides a recruiter with a quick read that still gives them the most pertinent information necessary to make a well informed conclusion about your qualifications.
The second most common mistake in resume writing is not having a cover letter. A cover letter is a valuable tool simply for the fact that this is where you get to explain why you desire a Texas physician job, why you would be an asset to the organization, or even to explain a lapse in your work history. A cover letter allows you to add important information that you were not able to fit into your resume. If you have an excellent cover letter, then your resume is sure to get a second or third look. Some employers won’t even give a resume a thought if the cover letter is lacking or missing altogether.
The next mistake employers see most often is poor grammar and spelling. It seems to be a silly mistake, especially since every computer has a spell checker, but it’s something we see far too often. An employer will be able to pinpoint the tiniest grammar error each and every time without fail. Most of the time it is an honest mistake since our brains tend to read misspelled words correctly. To bypass this slip-up, be diligent in running your spell check and have another person read through your documents before sending them.
The last resume misstep is listing out every single job duty you have ever had instead of focusing on what you bring to the table for a prospective employer. Let them know what you have contributed to organizations in the past and why it is relevant to this position. Telling them why you would be a valuable member of their team will get you noticed easier over a candidate who simply states the jobs they have done.
A resume is a tool that should be utilized to its full potential. If perfected, then it will do a good portion of the work for you during a job search. The career of your dreams is just around the corner; don’t let easily avoided mistakes cost you the chance to succeed.
